Le Bandit — Slot Review by Hacksaw Gaming
Le Bandit is a medium-volatility cluster pays slot from Hacksaw Gaming, released on 15 August 2023. The game runs on a 6×5 grid with a Super Cascade mechanic, where winning clusters of five or more matching symbols disappear and new symbols fall in to replace them. The headline mechanic is Golden Squares — positions marked after each cascade that activate when a Rainbow symbol lands, producing coin multipliers and special symbols worth up to 500x the stake. Three tiered free spin modes handle the game's high-end potential, with the top-tier bonus guaranteeing a Rainbow on every spin. RTP is 96.34% in its standard configuration, with lower operator settings available at 94.23%, 92.17%, and 88.36%. Maximum win is capped at 10,000x the stake.

How to play Le Bandit
Set your stake using the bet toggle at the bottom of the screen. Le Bandit supports wagers from £0.10 to £100, adjustable in preset steps. Once the stake is set, press Spin or activate Autoplay via the menu — Autoplay lets you set the number of rounds, a single win limit, and a loss limit before the session ends automatically. A Turbo mode is also available to speed up animations.
Wins form when five or more identical symbols connect horizontally or vertically anywhere on the 6×5 grid — diagonals do not count. After a win is registered, all contributing symbols disappear along with any other identical symbols visible elsewhere on the grid (Super Cascade). New symbols fall into the vacant positions, and the process repeats for as long as new wins form within the same spin cycle. There are no fixed paylines — all wins are cluster-based.
The paytable and all game rules are accessible via the information icon in the main menu. The Bonus Buy button sits in the same area, giving direct access to feature purchases without interrupting the main spin controls.
Le Bandit Slot Mechanics
The game works around cluster pays rather than fixed paylines. Winning groups clear from the grid, new symbols drop in, and bonus modifiers can transform a quiet round into a high-value sequence.
Free Spins
Landing three or more Scatters triggers Free Spins. Collected multipliers can persist, retriggers may extend the mode, and the round carries the highest reward potential.
Multiplier Chests
Chest symbols reveal random multipliers that can combine on active spins, amplifying the final win when several values connect.
Coin Collection
Coin symbols carry visible values. Collector-style mechanics gather those values and turn the grid into a cash-on-reels style feature.
Re-Spins
Triggered re-spins can lock active symbols while refreshing the rest of the grid, extending the feature when new valuable symbols land.
Persistent Collectors
Collector symbols accumulate values from nearby coins and can compound totals when additional collectors appear.
Wild Logic
Wilds substitute for standard icons and can interact with multipliers during certain features, making position matter inside the cluster layout.

Special symbols
- Wild: Substitutes for all regular paying symbols to complete clusters. Does not substitute for Scatter (FS) or Rainbow symbols.
- Scatter (FS): Landing 3, 4, or 5 FS symbols in a single base game spin triggers one of three free spin modes. During free spins, landing 2+ FS symbols awards retriggered spins.
- Rainbow: Does not pay directly. Activates all current Golden Squares on the grid when it lands, triggering the coin reveal sequence. Central to both the base game and all bonus rounds.
- Four-Leaf Clover: Spawned from activated Golden Squares. Multiplies the value of adjacent cells — including Pots of Gold — by 2x to 10x.
- Pot of Gold: Spawned from activated Golden Squares. Collects the aggregated value of all visible Coins and other Pots of Gold, then stores the total as a multiplier. Multiple Pots activate top-to-bottom, left-to-right, collecting each other's values in sequence.
Le Bandit bonus features
Super Cascade
Every spin in Le Bandit uses the Super Cascade mechanic. When a winning cluster forms, all symbols in that cluster disappear — along with every other identical symbol visible on the grid, regardless of whether those extra symbols were part of the winning group. New symbols tumble down to fill the vacated positions, and another win check takes place. This continues until no new wins form. The super cascade can chain multiple reactions from a single spin, particularly when the board is dense with high-frequency symbols.
Golden Squares
Every position that was occupied by a disappearing symbol — whether from a win cluster or an extra identical symbol removed by the Super Cascade — is marked with a Golden Square. These squares accumulate across the cascades of a single spin. If a Rainbow symbol is present on the same spin that Golden Squares exist, all squares activate simultaneously. Each activated square reveals one of three coin types, or a special symbol:
- Bronze Coins: Multiplier values from 0.2x to 4x the stake.
- Silver Coins: Values from 5x to 20x the stake.
- Gold Coins: Values up to 500x the stake.
- Four-Leaf Clover: Multiplies adjacent cells by 2x to 10x before Pots of Gold activate.
- Pot of Gold: Collects all visible Coin values and other Pots of Gold. After the final Pot collects, all Golden Squares reactivate for one additional round — meaning the process can repeat within a single spin.
Golden Squares do not carry over between spins in the base game. They reset at the start of each new spin.
Luck of the Bandit — Free Spins
Triggered by landing 3 FS symbols during a single base game spin. Awards 8 free spins. The key difference from the base game is that Golden Squares remain highlighted between spins throughout the entire bonus — they do not reset after each spin. They are only activated when a Rainbow symbol lands, which occurs randomly.
Retriggering: landing 2 FS symbols during the bonus awards 2 additional spins; landing 3 FS symbols awards 3 extra spins. It is also possible to upgrade directly to the All That Glitters Is Gold mode by landing 4 FS symbols, carrying over any remaining spins plus 4 additional spins into the higher tier.
All That Glitters Is Gold — Free Spins
Triggered by landing 4 FS symbols in a single base game spin. Awards 12 free spins. In this mode, all Golden Squares remain permanently highlighted for the entire duration of the bonus — not just between spins, but with no expiry. Every time a Rainbow lands, all current Golden Squares activate, generating coins and special symbols. Because Golden Squares persist and are never cleared, they can accumulate across spins and activate repeatedly, significantly compounding coin values over the course of the round.
Retriggering follows the same pattern as Luck of the Bandit (2 FS = +2 spins, 3 FS = +3 spins).
Treasure at the End of the Rainbow — Free Spins
The top-tier bonus, triggered exclusively by landing 5 FS symbols during a single base game spin. Awards 12 free spins. This mode cannot be purchased via Bonus Buy — natural trigger only. What sets it apart is a guaranteed Rainbow symbol on every single spin. Combined with permanently active Golden Squares, each spin in this mode triggers a full Golden Square activation sequence without exception. This consistent chain of coin multipliers and Pot of Gold collections is the primary route to reaching the 10,000x maximum win cap.
Retriggering conditions match the previous two modes.
Bonus Buy in Le Bandit
Le Bandit includes a Bonus Buy menu giving direct access to three of its four bonus states. The top-tier Treasure at the End of the Rainbow cannot be purchased. Bonus Buy is unavailable in jurisdictions where such features are restricted — including the United Kingdom under UKGC regulations. Check availability in your casino's game info before registering.

Le Bandit on mobile
Le Bandit is fully optimised for mobile play across iOS and Android. The game runs in both portrait and landscape orientation, with the grid scaling cleanly to smaller screens without loss of symbol clarity or control access. All features available on desktop — including the Bonus Buy menu, paytable, Autoplay settings, and Turbo mode — are present and accessible via touch controls in the mobile version.
- Platforms: iOS (Safari, Chrome) and Android (Chrome)
- Orientation: Portrait and landscape — grid adapts to both
- Tested on: iPhone 14 (Safari), Samsung Galaxy S23 (Chrome)
- Performance: Cascade animations, Golden Square reveals, and Rainbow activations all render smoothly on mid-range devices with no perceptible lag
- Controls: Spin, Autoplay, bet toggle, and menu icons are spaced comfortably for thumb use in both orientations
- Bonus Buy: Accessible on mobile where the feature is permitted by the operator's jurisdiction
We tested on standard UK 4G and home broadband — load times were fast in both cases, with no dropped frames during complex multi-cascade sequences.
Our take
Le Bandit suits players who are comfortable with variance and willing to wait for the bonus rounds to deliver. Its medium volatility rating means sessions are not as brutal as high-volatility peers, but the real win potential is concentrated almost entirely in the free spin modes — particularly Treasure at the End of the Rainbow, which cannot be bought and must be triggered naturally with five FS symbols. That combination of required patience and outsized reward ceiling is the game's defining characteristic.
The Golden Squares mechanic is genuinely well-constructed. The interaction between cascades, Rainbow triggers, Clover multipliers, and Pot of Gold collectors creates multi-layered sequences that are legible in real time rather than opaque. The four RTP configurations are the main concern for UK players — the standard 96.34% is reasonable, but the 88.36% setting at some operators is well below the market average, and checking in-game before playing is worth the effort.
The absence of a jackpot and the 10,000x cap will not appeal to players chasing uncapped volatility, but for those who enjoy structured mechanics and a theme with genuine character — a crowbar-wielding raccoon in a Parisian back alley is hard to ignore — Le Bandit holds up as one of the more thoughtfully designed Hacksaw Gaming releases in its catalogue.
